Susan Cosden,RJE - Director of Congregational Learning

Temple Beth Tikvah Welcomes Susan Cosden as Director of Congregational Learning

Will lead education efforts from preschool through adult programs

Temple Beth Tikvah, a Reform Jewish synagogue located in Roswell, has announced that Susan Halpern Cosden will become the congregation’s Director of Congregational Learning beginning in April. Ms. Cosden assumes the new position as part of the transition underway as Hassia Levin, a founder of the congregation who has served for 30 years as its religious school  principal, prepares to retire later this spring.

“Susan's breadth and depth of knowledge, her creative imagination, and her background in 21st century Jewish learning make her the ideal professional to serve our community,” said Senior Rabbi Alexandria Shuval-Weiner. “We were particularly impressed by Susan's diverse skills, her commitment to modeling lifelong learning, and her work in the pedagogy of experiential education.”

Ms. Cosden will be relocating from New Jersey, where she serves as director of congregational learning at a synagogue. She will play an essential leadership role in all facets of education at Temple Beth Tikvah, from the Early Childhood Education Center and religious school to the congregation’s popular youth programs and adult education initiatives. She will partner with clergy and lay leaders to engage congregants and the broader community in the joy of learning about Judaism’s history, living its traditions, and applying its teachings to the challenges and opportunities of contemporary society.

The daughter of a rabbi, Ms. Cosden grew up a passionate participant in Reform Judaism, attending religious school, spending summers at the Union of Reform Judaism’s Camp Coleman in North Georgia, and participating in the North American Federation of Temple Youth (NFTY). She earned a Master's degree in Jewish Education from the Hebrew Union College - Jewish Institute of Religion.
